Scioto: 3YO fillies duel in Nadia Lobell, Moni Maker
:quality(75))
Pacer Topville Lucky and trotter Victorianas Secret won the $100,000 Nadia Lobell and Moni Maker for sophomore fillies on Saturday night at Scioto Downs.
With Andy McCarthy in the bike in the Nadia Lobell, Topville Lucky got away fifth and picked up live cover from favorite Sangria Summer (Brett Miller) past the 27 second quarter that was clicked by I'm A Lou Lou. I'm A Lou Lou was still in the lead at the 55 4/5 half and the 1:23 three-quarters, but the outer flow that was fronted by Sangria Summer continued to make progress towards her.
In the stretch Sangria Summer sustained her grind to go past I'm A Lou Lou, but McCarthy fanned Topville Lucky to Sangria Summer's outside, and she went by late to tally by a quarter of a length in 1:50 2/5. Sangria Summer had to settle for second, followed by Shacarri (Chris Page), I'm A Lou Lou and Seaside Shuffle (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.).
"I've watched this filly race a lot. She's got a lot of high speed if the trip works out," said McCarthy, who remarked that he drove from New Jersey after this morning's qualifiers at the Meadowlands to Scioto. He picked up the drive from Dexter Dunn as Dunn and Andy's brother Todd, who were also scheduled to compete on the program, were stuck on an airplane that never left the Garden State due to poor weather throughout the region. "I was just lucky enough to get a decent trip in there, and she did her job in the stretch."
Andrew Harris trains Topville Lucky, a daughter of Sweet Lou bred by Jeremy Yoder, for owner Punisher 11 Stable. Topville Lucky has seven wins from 10 career starts, has pocketed $422,000 and paid $14 to win as a 6-1 offering.

In the Moni Maker, which was raced in honor of the late Hunter Myers, Victorianas Secret (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) moved up in a 28 2/5 quarter to get control away from early pace-setter Faster Horses (Yannick Gingras). From there Victorianas Secret reached the half in 56 3/5 and the three-quarters in 1:24 4/5 as Godusa (David Miller) came first-over out of fourth, followed by Ginger Tree Lex (McCarthy).
Godusa's first-over advance stalled out prior to three-quarters, and coming off the final bend, Victorianas Secret got separation on the field that she would keep to the finish line. She defeated Ginger Tree Lex by 3 1/2 lengths in a 1:52 4/5 mile, with Faster Horses, Godusa and Joyofmylife As (Tim Tetrick) third through fifth.
The victorious daughter of Tactical Landing was sent out by Vernon Beachy for owner Ryan Smith. The R. Kevin Greenfield and Michael Creps-bred filly has a summary of 6-3-2 from 14 appearances, has earned $245,531 and returned $3 to win as the 1-2 favorite.
