Barretts sale held in period of transition

The October yearling sale at the Barretts sales pavilion in Pomona, Calif., on Tuesday will mark the end of an era. Next year, after a January sale of horses of racing age and a March sale of select 2-year-olds, Barretts will move its events to Del Mar. Barretts general manager Kim Lloyd said last week that two yearling sales are tentatively scheduled for 2015 – a select sale in August and a broader sale in November. In recent years, the October yearling sale has been the only yearling sale in Southern California.

Fasig-Tipton: Mixed sale taps strong New York market

The third annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed and horses of racing age sale offers buyers the first chance to jump into the weanling and broodmare markets as well as assess several racing prospects, with a major emphasis on products of New York’s robust breeding program. The sale was added to Fasig-Tipton’s calendar in 2012 due to a horse population in the region that was growing in the wake of enhanced purses for statebreds and breeders’ and owners’ incentives for New York’s racing program.
