The catalog for the 2015 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring 2-year-olds in training sale is now available online, featuring a roster of 1,203 entries.
Despite the shift from a select catalog to a controlled open format, figures remained competitive with last year’s record renewal of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March 2-year-olds in training sale, including an all-time high gross.
With a move away from the traditional select format, there was plenty of room for speculation as to how the 2015 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March 2-year-olds in training sale would compare to previous renewals. Early returns showed a resounding success. The first of the sale’s two sessions closed Tuesday evening with figures that stacked up favorably against last year’s record-setting single-day auction, and even surpassed it in some key areas.
The Equine Sales Co., of Louisiana has cataloged 80 prospects to its 2-year-olds in-training and horses of racing age sale on April 27, the sale company announced Tuesday. The auction will be held in Opelousas, La., near Evangeline Downs. A pre-sale under tack show will be held April 25.

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March 2-year-olds in training sale has seen unprecedented growth over the past three years, and will expand in a different way for its 2015 renewal. The two-day auction has removed the “select” modifier from its title, opening the catalog up to a broader range of juveniles and raising its population to 610 entries, up 48 percent from the 411 offered in 2014.
Evangeline Downs will be the site of a 2-year-olds in-training sale on Monday. The Stars of Tomorrow auction is administered by Stemman, Inc., and features a catalog of 93 young prospects.
A Discreet Cat colt clocked the fastest furlong of Friday’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. pre-sale under-tack show, and tied the overall fastest time of the three-day proceeding, covering the distance in :9 3/5 seconds.
A sextet of juveniles breezed an eighth of a mile in 9 4/5 seconds on Thursday to lead the day at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March 2-year-olds in training under-tack show.
The 2015 Barretts May sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age has been moved to Thursday, May 28, with the presale under-tack show scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.
