LEXINGTON, Ky. – While most Kentucky-based trainers will wait until a few days before the Breeders’ Cup to have their horses flown to California for the Nov. 1-2 championships at Santa Anita, trainer Dale Romans is opting to send his horses a bit earlier. Led by Dennis’ Moment, the early favorite for the BC Juvenile, the Romans horses are booked to leave Sunday. “They’ll work Friday at Churchill,” said Romans. “And they’ll have their last work over the track there at Santa Anita.” Romans also has Promises Fulfilled for the Sprint and is considering Mr Freeze for the Dirt Mile. The closing-day Fayette Stakes at Keeneland is the alternative for Mr Freeze. ◗ Keeneland and other entities in the Thoroughbred industry are offering $70,000 in college scholarships along with other prizes Friday during College Scholarship Day at the track. The value of the scholarships is more than double the $30,000 that has been offered at recent meets and once again includes two $10,000 Runhappy scholarships donated by Jim and Linda McIngvale. New donors are Claiborne Farm, Glen Hill Farm, Hinkle Farms, Paramount Sales, Solis/Litt Bloodstock, and Taylor Made Farm. Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association have raffled off more than $400,000 in scholarships since College Scholarship Day became a fixture at every race meet in 2002. ◗ An oversubscribed field of 3-year-old fillies has been entered in the Friday feature at Keeneland, the Grade 3 Valley View at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Likely favorites include Lady Prancealot, scratched last weekend from the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, and the Chad Brown trio of Blowout, Catch a Bid, and Turf War.
