The countdown is on. Three weeks. Twelve racing days. That’s all that remains in the storied history of Aqueduct, a track that will cease racing operations following the completion of the June 28 program. Racing returns here Thursday following the five-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival in Saratoga that concluded Sunday. Over the next three weeks, nostalgia and turf racing will be dominant themes as 16 of the 29 races carded Thursday through Saturday are turf events. The co-feature on Thursday’s eight-race card is a first-level allowance for 3-year-old fillies scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf. Right Timing enters the race off a visually impressive 4 1/4-length maiden win at Aqueduct on May 10. That was her turf debut after making her first two starts on dirt. Trainer Chad Brown said that Right Timing, a daughter of Not This Time, had trained well enough on the dirt to start her career over that surface. She finished second on debut at Tampa Bay Downs before running fourth in her second start at Keeneland. In her turf race, Right Timing pressed the pace. In the stretch, under just a vigorous hand ride from Flavien Prat, she drew away from the field despite switching back to her left lead. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! She actually trains that good on the dirt but she’s better on the turf.” The maiden win was at a mile and this race is at 1 1/16 miles, which Brown said should not be a problem. Bella Knows, a daughter of Kantharos, makes her 3-year-old debut for Brad Cox. Bella Knows won her debut sprinting at Saratoga last summer before finishing sixth in the Grade 3 Matron at Aqueduct. Cox stretched her to 1 1/16 miles in the Chelsey Flower last Nov. 6 where she finished second to Deep Learning. While that horse has not run back, Fitz Right, who finished last in the Chelsey Flower, came back to win three straight, including the Grade 2 Wonder Again at Saratoga last Friday. Junior Alvarado rides Bella Knows from post 4. Siouxse, trained by Graham Motion, won her maiden going 1 1/16 miles here last November by 3 1/4 lengths. Horses she beat that day are a combined 0 for 15 out of that race. Siouxse, a daughter of Union Rags, finished fourth, with slight trouble, in the Hilltop Stakes at Laurel Park on May 15 in her seasonal debut. Integrity, a daughter of Maxfield trained by Brendan Walsh, was a front-running winner of a one-mile maiden race at Gulfstream Park on April 25. Aporia, third in that race, came back to win a maiden at Presque Isle Downs. Earlier on the card, My Magic Wand drops out of a fifth-place finish in the Grade 3 Vagrancy into a second-level allowance/optional-claiming race going six furlongs on dirt. My Magic Wand, trained by Gregg Sacco, has recorded all four of her career wins over Aqueduct’s main track. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
