Rebel Stakes winner Un Ojo has been transferred to trainer Robertino Diodoro and remains based at Churchill Downs, said Ricky Courville, who has trained the horse this spring. Both Courville and Diodoro train for Cypress Creek Equine, the co-owner of Un Ojo. Courville is based at Copper Crowne, a training center in Opelousas, La., while Diodoro has a division at Churchill and also will have about 12 horses this summer at Saratoga. Un Ojo was bred in New York. :: For the first time ever, our premium past performances are free! Get free Formulator now! Diodoro said Monday plans have not yet been determined for the horse’s next start. Un Ojo had a couple of physical hiccups that kept him from starts in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. “He looks great,” Diodoro said Monday. “Ricky did a good job with him. We were thinking about the Ohio Derby, but that’s just going to be too tight. So, we do not have a plan yet of when and where. We’re going to let the horse tell us when he’s ready. He’ll work later in the week.” Courville and Diodoro have swapped training duties on other horses for Cypress Creek. Ava’s Grace made her first start off a layoff for Courville in February before returning to the care of Diodoro. “Ricky’s got a lot of 2-year-olds that he’s getting ready for Cypress Creek and he’s the one that got Ava’s Grace ready to come to Oaklawn this past winter,” Diodoro said. “It’s kind of a good working system, where Ricky is home in Louisiana. I have strings in different places. It’s good for us and Cypress Creek.” Courville said the transfer of Un Ojo also allows him to bring his son Clay back home to Louisiana, as he had remained with the one-eyed horse in Kentucky. Courville said he recently sent a pair of 2-year-olds to Diodoro at Churchill. The list of 2-year-olds that Courville is developing right now includes a half-sister to the Grade 1-placed Ava’s Grace by Street Sense; a full brother to Grade 2 winner Keepmeinmind; and a full sister to Grade 2 winner Dream Lith. :: Want to start playing with a $510 bankroll and have access to free Formulator? The horse debuted May 19 at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., for Cypress Creek and Courville, who have since sent him to the Belmont-based trainer Rob Atras. Other trainers who have been utilized by Cypress Creek include Tony Dutrow, who saddled Un Ojo to a runner-up finish to eventual Preakness winner Early Voting in the Grade 3 Withers in February at Aqueduct. One start later, Un Ojo returned to the care of Courville, with whom he started his career, and won the Rebel over Ethereal Road and Barber Road in February at Oaklawn.
