Michael Burns Paramount Prince, with Fraser Aebly riding, wins the $150,000 Caledon Stakes by 2 3/4 lengths.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Mark Casse-trained Paramount Prince added to his impressive resume on Sunday at Woodbine when taking the inaugural running of the $150,000 Caledon Stakes by a convincing 2 3/4 lengths.

In a four-horse field of older Ontario-breds, Paramount Prince ($2.90) broke on top in the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta route and set moderate fractions under Fraser Aebly.

Wicked Django saved ground in fourth until the head of the stretch, where he took dead aim at Paramount Prince, who held him at bay throughout the final furlong to prevail in a time of 1:42.98.

Rapid Test finished another 5 3/4 lengths back in third while Saugeen trailed after a stalking trip. Sedburys Ghost was withdrawn to run in a stakes later on the card. Morning-line favorite Runaway Again was scratched after suffering an injury in his stall, according to trainer Sid Attard.

Aebly rode Paramount Prince in all five of his outings this year, including an Aug. 1 score over Runaway Again in the Grade 3 Seagram Cup.

“He’s truly an amazing horse,” Aebly said. “He carries himself so wonderful. He’s a pleasure to ride. I’ve ridden him a few times now, and he’s always got another gear waiting for you.”

Paramount Prince won the 2023 King’s Plate and was crowned Canadian champion male 3-year-old that year. He also was voted the Sovereign Award as Canada’s outstanding older male in 2024. On Sunday, the son of Society’s Chairman banked $94,500 for the partnership of Gary Barber and Michael Langlois.

“I said yesterday that someday when ‘Paramount’ retired, it’s going to be sad because he always delivers for us,” Langlois said. “We’ve never had a bad day with this guy – he’s amazing. We love him.”
