Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., has canceled racing for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday because of a forecast for freezing temperatures, the track announced Tuesday. The three cards are already drawn and will be moved, as drawn, to next week. The 12-race Southwest Stakes Day card featuring points races for the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks was to have been run Saturday, but is being moved to a Friday card, Feb. 6. The card for Saturday, Feb. 7, will feature the Bayakoa Stakes, which is scheduled to be the seasonal debut of champion Nitrogen. The card has not yet been drawn. The American Beauty, which was to have been run next Friday, will now be run on the same card as the Bayakoa. :: Live racing action at Oaklawn Park! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. The races originally carded for this Friday will now be run on Thursday, Feb. 5, and the races carded for this Sunday will be run next Sunday, Feb. 8. Oaklawn was not originally scheduled to race Feb. 8 because of the Super Bowl, but has added the date after the announced cancellations. .   “We never take the decision to cancel racing lightly,” Lou Cella, president of Oaklawn, said in a press release. “However, the safety of our horses, jockeys, and all participants is always our top priority. We appreciate the understanding and flexibility of our fans and horsemen as we work to deliver an outstanding weekend of championship racing and host the richest road to the Kentucky Derby.” Oaklawn also announced two major handicapping contests that were on deck for this weekend have been moved to next Friday and Saturday. Oaklawn has been dark the last three weeks for a winter break and was to resume racing for the first time since Jan. 4 on Friday. The first portion of the season that began Dec. 12 was called the holiday meet and the resumption of racing next Thursday will begin the classic meet. It runs through the close of the season, May 2. Oaklawn has lost five days of training from last Saturday through Wednesday due to Winter Storm Fern. The forecast for this Saturday is a high of 29 degrees after an overnight low of 8 degrees Friday evening, according to Accuweather. There also is precipitation in the forecast for Friday. The temperature from Saturday night into Sunday could dip to as low as 14 degrees. Oaklawn expects training to resume at noon Thursday.  The stakes winners Litmus Test and Strategic Risk are among a competitive field of 14 that were entered in the Southwest. The 1 1/16-mile stakes awards Kentucky Derby points to the first five finishes on a scale of 20-10-6-4-2.
