NYRA Bets available to customers in New Jersey
NYRA Bets has launched in New Jersey, nearly two years after the company was selected by the state to manage New Jersey’s online and mobile betting operations.
According to the New York Racing Association and the state’s racing commission, NYRA Bets began taking wagers from New Jersey residents on Wednesday.
Since 2005, online and mobile betting in New Jersey has been provided by a single operator, 4NJBets, which was run by Television Games Network. In 2023, New Jersey opened up bidding for a new platform, which was won by NYRA in 2024.
However, New Jersey law requires account-wagering bets to be processed in New Jersey, and NYRA did not have a hub in the state. The association built the hub out over the last year and recently completed testing at the site, according to the racing commission.
“We know that players want more wagering options, and [racing commission] staff worked diligently to oversee an orderly, trustworthy, and accurate process,” said Sara Ben-David, the acting executive director of the New Jersey Racing Commission. “I’m thankful to everyone for their patience as we prepared for this important milestone.”
Under the agreement with the state, NYRA is required to negotiate in good faith with competitors that would allow other platforms to operate in New Jersey. The platforms also would have to be approved by Darby Development, which operates Monmouth Park, and the racing commission.
“We are excited for the opportunity to introduce NYRA Bets to horseplayers in the Garden State,” said Tony Allevato, NYRA’s chief revenue officer and the president of NYRA Bets. “Thanks to our regulatory partners and stakeholders in New Jersey, who have worked diligently on this effort for the last two years, NYRA Bets has arrived to expand consumer choice and help grow the sport.”
