A highly competitive first-level allowance race for Florida-breds, 3-year-olds and up, is featured at Gulfstream Park on Friday. Just about all of the seven horses in the 1 1/16-mile turf race have a chance. As an example of how tough the race is to sort out, Daily Racing Form handicappers Michael Hammersly and Scott Ehlers mention five different horses in their selections. It goes as race 7 on an eight-race card that begins at 1:10 p.m. Eastern. Breaking from the rail with leading rider Edgard Zayas up is Sociallongdistance. A 5-year-old horse by Social Inclusion, Sociallongdistance is the only horse taking advantage of the $20,000 claiming option available in the conditions of the race. Trained by Fausto Gutierrez, Sociallongdistance is coming off a runner-up finish going 1 3/8 miles on the Tampa Bay Downs turf course in a $16,000 starter race March 30. Considering he won going a mile on turf at this level over the local course two back Feb. 11, he won’t mind the cutback in distance or the change in venue. The 81 Beyer he received for his race at Tampa Bay is the top last-race figure in the field. The Mark Casse-trained Typhoon Lagoon received an 80 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in a maiden special weight going a mile on turf at Tampa Bay on March 20. The effort was validated when the runner-up, Big Commerce, and the fifth-place finisher, First Slew, won their next starts. :: Subscribe to the DRF Post Time Email Newsletter: Get the news you need to play today's races!  The 5-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy could be sitting on another strong effort in the third start of his form cycle. He will break from post 2 with Miguel Vasquez riding. Sophomores Private Thoughts, Echo Lane, and Halon have a right to improve as they face older horses for the first time. Private Thoughts, trained by Ronald Spatz, used tactical speed to win a $50,000 starter race April 5. With Paco Lopez aboard, the son of Neolithic sat just off the pace before taking control of the 1 1/16-mile race on turf at the top of the stretch. Private Thoughts could be the one they have to run down in a race that figures to unfold at a moderate clip. He breaks from post 3 with Edwin Gonzalez riding. Echo Lane came from a stalking position when he won a $35,000 starter race on March 27 for trainer Rohan Crichton. Joe Bravo, who was aboard for the two-length victory on Tapeta opts to ride Halon. Ismael Jaramillo will be aboard Echo Lane when he breaks from post 4. With Bravo riding for trainer Joseph Orseno, Halon came from well back to win a $50,000 maiden/optional claimer going a mile on turf March 27. It was another step forward for the son of Flameaway, who improved when he tried turf for the first time on Dec. 31 The 60 Beyer he received New Year’s Eve was a career best and in his next two races on grass the figures jumped to 64 and 71. His lack of speed won’t do him any favors and Bravo will have to work out a trip after breaking from the outside post. Admiral’s Wave and Awesome Crusader complete the field. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
