HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Moon Spun extended her winning streak to four while giving trainer Brian Lynch his eighth stakes victory of the Championship meet with a relatively easy 3 1/4-length decision over Le Amazonia in Saturday’s $125,000 Ladies' Turf Sprint at Gulfstream Park. Moon Spun also gave jockey Javier Casellano his fourth win on the card. Moon Spun, who held on to win the Abundantia Stakes by a hard-fought neck here six weeks ago, didn’t have to work nearly as hard in the five-furlong Ladies' Turf Sprint. Breaking alertly, the 5-year-old daughter of Hard Spun quickly sprinted to command a relatively easy pace while stalked by Twirling Queen from the outset. Castellano asked Moon Spun to pick up her pace leaving the quarter pole, and the speedy filly responded by readily shaking free of her early challenger on settling into the stretch. She then readily increased her advantage while drifting out slightly through the final furlong.  :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Flamingo Way found her best stride too late, finishing another 1 1/4 lengths farther back in third. Moon Spun is trained by Lynch for Town and Country Racing LLC. She completed the distance over a firm course in 55.51 seconds and paid $4.80. “When she had an easy lead in :22 and change, it gave you a good feeling that she’d have plenty left,” Lynch said. “To be honest, I was surprised she made the lead so easily. I thought there would be a lot more pace to go with her. But she left there hard and ran them off their legs early.” Lynch said he’s seen steady improvement in Moon Spun, who returned from an 11-month layoff to notch three consecutive victories here during the Championship meet. “She’s grown into a much bigger, stronger filly,” Lynch added. “She was always very antsy in the early stages. She seems to have settled a lot more and she seems to be getting better this year.” Lynch said he’d likely bring Moon Spun back in the $125,000 Silks Run on March 3. “We’ll bring her back in the next one and see if she can sweep the series,” Lynch said.        :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
