Spendthrift Farm resident Into Mischief’s stock continued to rise over the Kentucky Derby weekend, with a slate of successful 3-year-old runners at Churchill Downs. The most visible of his progeny’s efforts came from Audible, who closed up the rail to finish third in the Kentucky Derby, giving Into Mischief his best finish in the race to date. Audible, who entered the race off a victory in the Grade 1 Florida Derby, left the gate as the betting public’s fourth choice, at odds of 7-1. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 100. Audible became Into Mischief’s fifth $1 million earner Saturday, joining Goldencents, who leads with $3,044,000, Practical Joke, Vyjack, and Vicar’s in Trouble. Audible was bred in New York by Oak Bluff Stables. He is out of the winning Gilded Time mare Blue Devil Bel. A day earlier, Into Mischief filled two-thirds of the trifecta in the Grade 2 Eight Belles Stakes, with Mia Mischief finishing first and Gas Station Sushi running third. Both fillies were bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm. The Eight Belles was the first graded stakes attempt for Mia Mischief, who entered the race off a win in the Purple Martin Stakes at Oaklawn Park. She is out of the winning Speightstown mare Greer Lynn. Gas Station Sushi suffered her first defeat in three career starts in the Eight Belles, after winning her debut at Del Mar last August by 3 1/2 lengths, then returning in April to win the Grade 3 Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland. The filly is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Five Star Dream mare Five Star Daydream. Mia Mischief earned a 97 Beyer in the Eight Belles, while Gas Station Sushi picked up an 83. Elsewhere on the Kentucky Oaks card, the filly Devine Mischief won an optional-claiming race at Churchill and earned an 82 Beyer. She was bred by Spendthrift, out of the winning Vicar mare Vibrant, making her a full sister to Grade 2 winner Vicar’s in Trouble. Into Mischief stands at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $100,000.
