Meadowlands: Loua Dipa fights off Be Perfect BG in Jerry Silverman Memorial thriller
:quality(75))
In another epic performance, Loua Dipa battled and held off rival Be Perfect BG through the final-half of a sizzling mile to capture the $180,120 Grade 3 Jerry Silverman Memorial at the Meadowlands on Saturday night. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. guided the Ron Burke-trained 3-year-old pacing filly to a 1:48 mile, equaling the track record and her personal-best taken in 2025.
There was plenty of early action in the mile, as I'm A Lou Lou and Tim Tetrick left hard from the rail, parking Fabulous Hanover briefly for the front. Darlin's Angel, with Lauren Tritton, was used hard to gain command just past the 26 1/5 opening fraction and eagerly allowed I'm A Lou Lou to regain control shortly thereafter.
Wrenn Jr. had settled Loua Dipa on the outside in the early stages and advanced to the front with Be Perfect BG and Dexter Dunn right on her back. Loua Dipa hit the half in 53 3/5, and Wrenn Jr. had no thoughts of yielding his advantage. The two fillies squared off, springing a third quarter in 26 2/5 while going neck-and-neck.

In the stretch Dunn kept urging Be Perfect BG to try to get by, but Loua Dipa was resilient and kept her head in front through a final quarter of 28 seconds. Darlin's Angel rallied back late for third ahead of She's A Bulldog.
Loua Dipa was a winner for the fourth time in five starts this year for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. A homebred by Sweet Lou, Loua Dipa returned $3.80 to win.
"She never went away; she was there to dance," said Wrenn Jr. of his rival filly in the stretch. "These two fillies are going to battle all year."
