The Maryland Jockey Club announced that Laurel Park will cancel its 10-race Saturday card due to “expected freezing temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic region." Laurel’s Saturday card did not feature any stakes races, with two allowances slated to serve as co-features. The card will be brought back in its entirety on Friday, Jan. 30. Extreme cold has forced several other tracks in the Mid-Atlantic to change their schedule this week. In West Virginia, Charles Town has also canceled racing on Saturday and changed its Friday post time to 5 p.m. local time in an attempt to avoid dropping temperatures later in the evening. Earlier this week, Parx Racing was forced to cancel racing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, resuming with a 10-race card on Thursday. A winter storm warning in Pennsylvania on Sunday and expected cold temperatures could put the track’s cards next week in jeopardy as well. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
