Laurel Park has canceled the remainder of its Friday card and will also postpone racing on Saturday and Sunday due to “frigid temperatures,” as extreme cold and wind chill has again led to unsafe racing conditions.   Officials made the decision to cancel the Friday card after the first race, a claiming race won by Weekend Wife and jockey Andres Chavez. The same 10-race card was originally supposed to run last Saturday but was postponed for the same reason. Next week, the track will conduct racing from Wednesday to Sunday to run the postponed weekend cards. The Saturday card, which includes the $100,000 Spectacular Bid and $100,000 Xtra Heat, will now be run on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The Sunday card will be run on Thursday, Feb. 5. Racing will resume as usual on Friday. Though there will be no racing this weekend, Laurel and the Maryland Jockey Club OTB remain open for simulcast wagering. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
