Kathynmarissa has first work since Diana victory

Debra A. Roma Diana winner Kathynmarissa will start next in the Flower Bowl at Belmont Park.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Kathynmarissa, winner of the Grade 1 Diana on July 18, had her first workout since then on Friday morning at Saratoga, breezing a half-mile in 49.78 second over the Oklahoma turf course.

Trainer Chad Brown said he just gave Kathynmarrisa a freshening following the Diana knowing he wasn’t going to run her again until the Grade 2, $500,000 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park on Sept. 26.

“I think she’s had a lot of training and racing so far, I didn’t see the need for extra works. She’s older now, I didn’t want to put any more wear and tear on her,” Brown said. “She’s been wanting to work here for a little bit – I could have worked her last week – but I looked at the schedule and she’s very fit. I let her do that by herself today and she did that very easily.”

The Flower Bowl, which has been run at Saratoga the last few years, will return to Belmont and to its previous distance of 1 1/4 miles. It is a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
