SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Kathynmarissa and Gezora, the one-two finishers from the Grade 3 Modesty Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 1, will renew acquaintances in Friday’s Grade 1, $750,000 New York Stakes at Saratoga. This meeting comes with a twist.  In the Modesty, Kathynmarissa and Gezora were both sent out by Chad Brown. Gezora, the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner last fall for Francis-Henri Graffard, was making her first start for Brown in the Modesty.  But shortly after that race, in which Kathynmarissa beat Gezora by 1 1/4 lengths, owner Peter Brant transferred Gezora to Bill Mott, who will send out the 4-year-old filly for the first time while seeking his fourth victory in the New York. John Velazquez will ride Gezora from the outside post in this nine-horse field.  Brown has won the New York five times, including twice for Brant. Kathynmarissa, owned by Michael Dubb and Michael Caruso, is one of four Brown entries in this year’s running. Kathynmarissa is 2 for 2 since being transferred to Brown, her first victory for him coming in an allowance here last August.  Brown will also send out City Girl, the Grade 3 Beaugay winner at Aqueduct, Pretty Picture, a recent second-level allowance winner at Keeneland, and Portfolio Duration, second in the Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile at Churchill last out.  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. The New York, at 1 3/16 miles, will go as race 11 on the 14-race card that begins at 11:45 a.m.. The field includes Grade 2 Flower Bowl winner Bellezza; last year’s Grade 2 Saratoga Oaks winner Laurelin; Grade 3 Bewitch winner Speed Shopper and the European import Cankoura, third to Gezora in the Group 1 Prix Diane last June in France.  Oaks rematch in Acorn  Kentucky Oaks one-two finishers Always a Runner and Meaning - two daughters of the stallion Gun Runner - will meet again in Friday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Acorn for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles.  Always a Runner, trained by Brown, improved her record to 3 for 3 when she ran by Meaning in midstretch to win the Oaks by 1 1/3 lengths. Meaning, who had won the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks, finished one length in front of Grade 2 Fantasy winner Counting Stars in the Kentucky Oaks. Prom Queen, who won the Gulfstream Park Oaks, finished fifth in the Kentucky Oaks and is back for more in the Acorn. Maximum Offer, who won an allowance race earlier on the Kentucky Oaks card, was also entered in the Acorn.  Nitrogen seeks more Saratoga success  Nitrogen was voted 3-year-old filly champion of 2025 on the strength of her six wins, two of which came at Saratoga. She will seek more Saratoga success Friday in the Grade 1, $500,000 Ogden Phipps at 1 1/8 miles for older females.  Last year on this card, Nitrogen won the off-the-turf Wonder Again Stakes by 17 lengths against just two rivals. After getting beaten a nose in the Belmont Oaks on turf,  Nitrogen came back to win the Grade 1 Alabama going 1 1/4 miles on dirt.  Nitrogen won the Grade 3 Bayakoa to kick off her 4-year-old campaign and most recently was second to Claret Beret in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn Park.  Nitrogen will break from post 5 in this six-horse field, which also includes Fully Subscribed, second in the Grade 1 La Troienne, Alpine Princess, the Grade 2 Doubledogdare winner, Bless the Broken, third in the La Troienne, and Regaled, last fall’s Grade 3 Delaware Handicap winner.  In other stakes:  *** Ways and Means will take on five opponents when she seeks a repeat victory in the Grade 2, $300,000 Bed o’ Roses Stakes for fillies and mares at seven furlongs. If Ways and Means puts fourth the same the effort she gave in last year’s running of this race, she will be a repeat winner.  Ways and Means romped to a 7 1/4-length victory in last year’s Bed o’ Roses, earning a 111 Beyer Speed Figure. She didn’t race again until this year’s Grade 1 Derby City Distaff, in which she finished second to R Disaster.  This year’s Bed o’ Roses field looks a little stronger with Grand Job, beaten a nose in the Grade 1 Madison last out, Praying, who upset the Grade 3 Prioress here last summer, Scalable, Senza Parole and Vincey Girl.  *** Fitz Right, winner of the Memories of Silver Stakes, Coach Mazzula, winner of the Hilltop Stakes, and Lion Lake, third, beaten a neck, in the Edgewood Stakes, head the field of eight 3-year-old fillies entered in the Grade 2, $300,000 Wonder Again Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Pashmina was entered to run only if the race is run on the main track.  Fitz Right goes out for Brown, who also entered the maiden winner Tax Holiday. The field includes 2-year-old stakes winners Quiet Street and Time to Dream, who won the P.G. Johnson Stakes here last summer. Call on Me and Soloist round out the field.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
