B.C. Cup Day 2024 is in the books and surprises were minimal among the six B.C. Cup races on the holiday Monday card.  Among the more noteworthy outcomes on Monday was in the B.C. Cup Distaff with the return to prominence of Infinite Patience, who took command not long after the opening bell and eventually ran away and hid by 7 3/4 lengths in the end. She covered the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:43.62 and looked especially like her old self when enjoying a victory lap around the Hastings oval. The four-time defending B.C. Horse of the Year is owned by breeder William Decoursey and R N H Stable, and is trained by Barbara Heads.  Bunny, from the barn of Dino Condilenios, made a very strong showing while chasing Infinite Patience all the way and holding on to be second, 1 1/4 lengths to the good of Matsqui. It was the stakes debut for Bunny, who easily won two previous starts at the current meeting. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. The B.C. Cup Classic was taken by Space, who saved ground while sitting off the leader before moving up on the last turn and earning a hard-fought victory under jockey Brian Boodramsingh. The winner, trained by Snow, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.34. Trainer Mel Snow dominated the first event of the day, saddling three of four starters in the B.C. Cup Debutante. He was not disappointed upon seeing Breezin Brianne, the only prior winner and the prohibitive betting favorite, win by the comfortable margin of 8 1/4 lengths. She covered 6 1/2 furlongs over a fast strip in 1:17.90. Mount Doom, trained by Steve Henson and ridden by Antonio Reyes, won the B.C. Cup Nursery as the even-money choice. The winner prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths after a spirited battle all the way with runner-up Pioneer Storm King. The final time over 6 1/2 furlongs for the 2-year-old males was 1:18.11. The Hong Kong Jockey Club saw 1-5 favorite Avana bide her time early before mowing everybody down for a 3 1/4-length score for owner Peter Redekop BC Ltd. and trained by Heads. Brooke Magic was a strong second, two lengths to the good of Sunblaze in third. They saved the best finish for the final B.C. Cup race of the day, which was the Sir Winston Churchill. Two necks and two heads separated the first five finishers in a race that went to Diocles, trained by Pat Jarvis. The son of Counterforce paid $13.40 to win after covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.33. Longshot What's Shakin finished second at 44-1 and he closed quickly to just miss. August Rain, the 4-5 favorite, lost ground on each turn and still circled up to lead late, only to be nailed on the line from both sides. The Sir Winston Churchill seemed only to cloud the local picture for the upcoming B.C. Derby. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
