Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., resumes racing next Friday, Jan. 30, after a three-week winter break, and entries for its first card back were fast and furious on Friday. The 10-race program drew 122 horses, with nine of them on also-eligible lists. The featured $150,000 Fifth Season, which is for 4-year-olds and up at a mile, drew a field of nine that includes Southern California-based Pony Express, who is trained by John Sadler. First post next Friday will be 12:30 p.m. Central. The Fifth Season is slotted as the eighth race. The field, from the rail with riders, is Pony Express, Joel Rosario; Seize the Night, Amir Mendoza; Thoughtthatcounts, Cristian Torres; Komorebino Omoide, Ramon Vazquez; Woodcourt, Manny Esquivel; American Law, Francisco Arrieta; Runaway Again, Rafael Bejarano; Will Take It, Ricardo Santana Jr.; and Speed King, Luis Saez. Oaklawn ran a holiday meet from December to early January. The classic meet that begins next Friday will run through the close of the season May 2. Entries for the Southwest Stakes Day card will be taken on Sunday. The Southwest, which carries points for the Kentucky Derby, will be run on Saturday, Jan. 31. The forecast for Saturday is a high of 29 degrees with no precipitation, according to Accuweather. The low for Friday night is forecast for 6 degrees. There is a 20 percent chance of rain Friday, with a high of 37.
