Trainer Justin Evans has entered a powerful one-two punch in Saturday’s 6 1/2-furlong allowance feature at Emerald Downs. Peaceful Waters and Prisoner are each blessed with early speed, and that equates to a strong say in the outcome in a race with just six runners entered. The pair have in common impressive showings at Saratoga in recent years. Prisoner was a winner at the Spa in a $50,000 claiming race run over six furlongs in the mud on Aug. 18 of last year in his only start there. Peaceful Waters was a 12-length winner of an allowance with a $115,000 purse on Aug. 20, 2022, at Saratoga. Peaceful Waters, a 5-year-old son of Dialed In, most recently raced June 7 at Santa Anita in a $50,000 claiming event from which he was claimed. He faded to finish seventh of eight that day as the 2-1 favorite. “He’s been here a few weeks and worked good over the track,” Evans said. “He’s a very nice horse, came over looking great.” Prisoner has raced at Emerald Downs on three occasions this season, winning a $10,000 starter allowance on May 19. “Prisoner is one of my favorites, he tries so hard,” Evans said. “He just needs the right trip this week. I think they can both be tough.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. Set to face the pair is Executive Chef, who tends to be remarkably consistent while seldom earning high marks in the Beyer Speed Figure department. The Blaine Wright trainee delivered a solid allowance victory in his latest, which earned only a 64 Beyer for 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.10. The catch was that $2,500 claimers had gone 6 1/2 furlongs a half-hour before in 1:17.29. Executive Chef has finished in the top pair on 8 of 11 occasions at Emerald Downs. He will be piloted by Juan Gutierrez on Saturday. Mongolian Memory will drop out of the stakes ranks to try Saturday’s allowance feature. The Scott Tubbs trainee finished a solid fourth at 48-1 in the Budweiser Stakes on June 23. That put the runner just two lengths behind Slew’s Tiz Whiz, who most recently finished third in the Longacres Mile. The other pair in Saturday’s race are Jin Tong and You’re the Cause. Jin Tong is a Joe Toye trainee who has been coming around of late with a pair of runner-up finishes behind recent Longacres Mile participant Surprsinglyperfect. Jin Tong has a 2-0-2 record from eight career sprints and will be exiting three routes when attempting Saturday’s 6 1/2-furlong trip. You’re the Cause is a Debbie Van Horne trainee who has a history of capitalizing on a fast pace in front of him. That was precisely the scenario in play when he came from far back to win the 2022 Muckleshoot Derby at Emerald when two starts removed from a narrow win at the $8,000 maiden-claiming level. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
