HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The fields for both the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes and listed Swale Stakes Saturday at Gulfstream Park will lose at least one starter as trainer Jose D’Angelo said Wednesday he plans to scratch his 3-year-olds from those races for other spots. No More Time, who is entered in the Holy Bull, is going to run instead in the Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 10. Bentornato, the three-time stakes winner who was entered in the Swale, is being re-routed to the Grade 3, $1.5 million Saudi Derby on Feb. 24. D’Angelo said he thinks the Sam Davis may be a better spot to try and earn points toward the May 4 Kentucky Derby than facing champion Fierceness in the Holy Bull. Both races offer 42 qualifying points (20 to the winner). “Looking for the points for the Derby,” D’Angelo said about the reason for going to Tampa. “He’s training very, very good and I think he’s going to like that track over there.” In his second career start, No More Time won a one-mile maiden race at Gulfstream by 6 3/4 lengths. He missed a scheduled start in an allowance before finishing fifth, 3 3/4 lengths behind Otello in the Mucho Macho Man on New Year’s Day. Otello could be the second choice in the Holy Bull. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports “At the top of the stretch, he had a big shot, but he wasn’t fit enough,” D’Angelo said. “For this race, I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a different horse.” D’Angelo said Paco Lopez will ride No More Time in the Sam Davis. The scratch of No More Time leaves the Holy Bull with a field of seven. Bentornato won his first four starts, including three stakes, all around one turn. He suffered his first defeat when he finished third the In Reality division of the Florida Stallion Series at 1 1/16 miles. D’Angelo said Bentornato was invited to the Saudi Derby and the one-turn mile configuration and huge purse made it too good to pass up. “It is probably not going to be so tough, we said, ‘Hey, it’s a good race to take a shot in,’ ” D’Angelo said. D’Angelo said Luis Saez has the mount in the Saudi Derby. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
