Corrina Corrina figures to make good use of the added real estate she picks up Sunday, when the all-time richest New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred starts in the $80,000 La Coneja at Sunland Park. She will be looking for her second consecutive win in the six-furlong race restricted to fillies and mares bred in New Mexico. Corrina Corrina was up for a neck victory in last year’s La Coneja and should again be making her case from off the pace. She enters off a runner-up finish in the New Mexico Racing Commission Stakes run over 5 1/2 furlongs on Jan. 4 at Sunland. “She was catching them,” trainer Gary Cross said. “But it’s a little short for her anyway because I don’t want to take her out of her style of running, make her run early.” The La Coneja field of eight includes Mo Money Time, who won the New Mexico Racing Commission Stakes. Cross said last week that Corrina Corrina lost four days of training due to the circumstances and that she was not a definite starter in the La Coneja. If she passes on the race, he said she would target the Harry Henson on the Sunland Park Derby undercard Feb. 15. She won the race in 2025. Mo Money Time would likely go favored in the La Coneja if Corrina Corrina scratches. In addition to winning the New Mexico Racing Commission Stakes, Mo Money Time owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. She earned a 77 for her recent win, which was her second straight following a non-winners-of-three lifetime allowance Dec. 9 at Zia. Mo Money Time showed versatility in that race, as she rallied from off the pace. She is a daughter of Conquest Mo Money and races for her breeder, Brian Mundell. First Again is a winner of two of her last three starts. She’s been a short-priced favorite in her last two outs and enters off a runner-up finish in a no-conditions allowance at Zia.
