Competitive fields will make Rainbow 6 players work on ‘Mandatory Monday'
:quality(75))
For the seventh of eight consecutive Monday programs, Gulfstream Park will offer a mandatory payout on the 20-cent Rainbow 6. The wager begins with the fourth race on the nine-race card and will require bettors to parse through several deep claiming fields.
Last week, the Monday Rainbow 6 featured a pool of $387,000, a slight increase from the $334,000 on Aug. 10.
Race 4: This conditioned $17,500 claiming race on synthetic features a clear horse to beat in the field of seven. The 3-year-old filly Mo Java finished second by three-quarters of a length at the same level last month, earning a 65 Beyer Speed Figure for trainer Joel Santiago.
Winrooski, coming out of the same claiming race, wilted as the 3-5 favorite, fading well back in her first start off the claim for Rohan Crichton. In her prior two starts, she earned 77 and 76 Beyers in gate-to-wire victories for an $8,000 tag.
Race 5: Several lightly raced runners could surprise a more experienced core of contenders in a $35,000 maiden-claiming race. The Coromoto and Winning Defense finished second and third at this level last month and should be close again in the five-furlong turf sprint.
Come On Teesha, a first-time starter trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., has been training well ahead of her debut and could spring a surprise.
Race 6: This $10,000 claiming race on synthetic features the largest field in the Rainbow 6, with 12 older males and an also-eligible entered.
Navy Cross, a 6-year-old gelding trained by Pedro Garcia Jr., dominated in a similar claiming race earlier this month, winning by 2 3/4 lengths with an 82 Beyer. Five of his rivals that day will run again Monday.
Race 7: In the only first-level allowance on the Monday card, Sabian will likely earn favoritism in another five-furlong turf sprint. The Victor Barboza Jr.-trained gelding finished fourth by two lengths against a marginally tougher field last month.
Banded Rocket and Test Factor finished third and fourth in a $35,000 starter/optional-claiming race in July.
Race 8: The only race on dirt Monday will be a $12,500 claiming race at seven furlongs. It also could be the likeliest to trip up bettors, as a case can be made for most of the older males in the field of eight.
Tshiebwe, a two-length winner in a $12,500 claiming race in May, has not run since.
Dune Road also is returning for the same tag off a short break, having finished a close third when he was claimed by Jose D’Angelo in June. He ran just behind the speedy gelding Carambaso, who then switched to synthetic against tougher company last month.
Race 9: The final leg of the Rainbow 6 features another wide-open field in a conditioned $17,500 claiming race.

Vanish, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, is an uncertain contender who has not run since a poor performance on synthetic in June. She will add blinkers in her first start for Joseph.
Scarlett’s Law and Queen Kong ran on synthetic last time and will switch to turf for the 1 1/16-mile race. Last-out maiden winners Terrimendous, Getaholdayourself, and Starlight Luna could improve and challenge for another score.
