The repeat win by Cody’s Wish in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile has been named the NTRA Moment of the Year, the administrators of the award announced on Wednesday, one day prior to the Eclipse Awards ceremony, where the connections of the horse will be acknowledged. This was the second year in a row that Cody’s Wish was named the winner of the NTRA Moment of the Year. The horse is named for the late Cody Dorman, who formed an unusual bond with the horse as a yearling. Dorman, who was afflicted with a rare genetic disease called Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, attended the Breeders’ Cup in both 2022 and 2023 to watch his namesake. Dorman died two days after Cody’s Wish won his second Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. He was 17. The Dirt Mile win was selected over 12 other nominees for the award. Voting was conducted through polls on the NTRA website and on X, the social-media site formerly known as Twitter. Cody’s Wish is owned by Godolphin and was trained by Bill Mott. The horse was retired after the Breeders’ Cup last year and now stands at Godolphin’s Jonabell Farm in Central Kentucky. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
