Bourbon Cowboy shows up in turf sprint allowance
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Trainer Richie Scherer said last week he was aiming Bourbon Cowboy at the Black Gold Stakes, but Scherer, evidently, found a better spot sooner. Bourbon Cowboy, a sharp second to Cinco Charlie in the Sugar Bowl Stakes here last month, is one of eight horses entered in Friday’s featured eighth race, a first-level, turf sprint allowance for 3-year-olds that’s also open to $50,000 claimers.
Bourbon Cowboy made his first five starts on synthetic surfaces, running well in stakes at Arlington and Presque Isle. The Sugar Bowl, which earned him a 96 Beyer, marked his dirt debut, and Friday’s race will be the first on turf for Bourbon Cowboy, a son of Cowboy Cal.
Notte d’Oro to Bayou
Notte d’Oro, who made a winning stakes debut Saturday in the Marie Krantz Memorial, came out of the race in good shape and will be pointed to the $60,000 Bayou Stakes on Feb. 21 at Fair Grounds. Mike Stidham, who trains the lightly raced 4-year-old filly for Twin Creeks Racing Stables, said Notte d’Oro is a candidate for the Bewitch Stakes at 1 1/2 miles in April at Keeneland.
◗ Jockey Richard Eramia, injured and out of action since a spill in late November, was to start working horses again this week, and is scheduled to begin riding races again on Jan. 29, his agent, Rick Mocklin said in a text message Tuesday.
