OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Wayne Potts registered his 700th career win here on Thursday and at the rate he’s going, it may not take long to get 800. When Autumn’s Turn won her second race in 12 days on Thursday, after losing her first 26 starts, it was the fourth win from five starters at the winter meet for Potts, who then did lose another race when Amber Elite finished fifth later on Thursday. On Sunday’s eight-race card at Aqueduct, Potts has two runners in both the fourth and sixth races. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! In race 4, a starter allowance/optional $16,000 claimer, Potts plans to run both Problematica and Best Impression, mares who break from posts 1 and 2, respectively. Problematica, who goes first off the claim for Potts, “is a speed filly,” Potts said. “I plan on running her out of the rail, and Best Impression, who won first off the claim, will sit off the pace.” In race 6, a $25,000-$20,000 claimer, Potts runs Quiet Wisdom back eight days after claiming the gelding for $16,000. He finished third going 1 1/8 miles in that Jan. 10 race.” “The day we claimed him I told the owner I’d like to turn him back to seven-eighths, so this race came up. I thought it’d be a light spot so we went ahead and went in there,” Potts said. Potts said he also plans to run Lost in Rome, who runs back nine days after getting beat a nose for $16,000 claiming on Jan. 9. That race became a back-up plan as Potts said he was planning to run the 9-year-old gelding in a race at Oaklawn Park that failed to fill. “He had a good break before we ran him last time, so we figured wheel him right back,” said Potts, who has split his stable this winter between Aqueduct and Oaklawn. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
