About Fort Erie

Fort Erie Racetrack, located in Fort Erie, Ontario, has a rich and storied history that spans more than a century. Established in 1897, the racetrack has been a prominent fixture in the Canadian horse racing scene and has witnessed countless thrilling races and memorable moments.

The track's origins can be traced back to the Niagara Jockey Club, which initially operated the facility. Over the years, Fort Erie Racetrack has undergone several renovations and upgrades to meet modern standards while preserving its historical charm. 

Fort Erie is best known as the home of the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown, following the King's Plate. First run in 1929, the Prince of Wales is contested over a distance of 1 3/16 miles on the dirt track at Fort Erie and attracts top 3-year-old Canadian-bred Thoroughbreds.
