Rachel Alexandra likely to stay home next time

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Following another successful visit to the Jersey Shore, where she won the $400,000 Lady's Secret at Monmouth on Saturday, reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra returned to Saratoga just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning where she will be based for the remainder of the summer and, if all goes well, where she will most likely make her next start.

Rachel Alexandra takes care of business in Lady's Secret

OCEANPORT, N.J. - A cool and collected Rachel Alexandra, the reigning Horse of the Year, captured the $400,000 Lady's Secret Stakes for fillies and mares in the oppressive heat Saturday at Monmouth Park.

It was her second straight stakes win following a pair of narrow losses to start the 2010 season.

Rachel Alexandra beat the pacesetting Queen Martha by three lengths. It was another 7 3/4 lengths back to Ask the Moon in third.

Six will take a shot against Rachel in Lady's Secret

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Rachel Alexandra will face six rivals Saturday in the $400,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park. The defending Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra drew post 5 with regular rider Calvin Borel aboard.

The winner of last year’s Haskell Invitational over the colts, Rachel Alexandra returns to Monmouth Park for the first time in a race customized to the specifications of trainer Steve Asmussen and owner Jess Jackson.

Originally slated for Aug. 1 at 1 1/16 miles, the Lady’s Secret was shifted to this weekend at 1 1/8 miles with $250,000 added to the purse.

Rachel Alexandra arrives at Monmouth for Lady's Secret

Following an early morning departure from Saratoga, Rachel Alexandra arrived by van about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Monmouth Park, where she is to run in Saturday’s $400,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes.

Trainer Steve Asmussen, who was at Saratoga on Tuesday, said he is following the “same routine” he used last summer when Rachel Alexandra won the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth. She had her final workout at Saratoga before shipping to Monmouth. On Monday, Rachel Alexandra breezed four furlongs in 49.60 seconds over the Oklahoma training track.
