Zenyatta galloped 1 1/2 miles on Hollywood Park’s main track on Thursday, two days before her final workout in preparation for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6.
Zenyatta began her gallop near the head of the stretch and did a complete circuit before pulling up on the backstretch. Ridden by exercise rider Steve Willard, the unbeaten 6-year-old Zenyatta showed enthusiasm throughout the exercise.
“She’s in the bridle,” trainer John Shirreffs said. “I’d have to say she’s stepped it up a notch. She’s a little more intense.”
Zenyatta is scheduled to be flown to Kentucky early Tuesday.
Best Bets
The last-start $12.5k claiming win by ADAM SUANCES was even better than it looks on paper. He got shuffled back on the turn, stayed calm, swung to the outside, and powered away by two and a half lengths while tons best. The sharp gelding handles adversity, he strings together his good races, and is a pro on this track (3-for-6). Take him right back at one level higher. He will have to catch PEACENIK, runaway winner of an $8k claimer last out in the fastest race of the meet at six and a half furlongs (1:16.15). Claimed by Craig Dollase, he jumps up three levels and might be this good.
