Three tie for fastest furlong at Barretts March preview

A trio of colts tied for the fastest furlong breeze at the Barretts March selected sale of 2-year-olds in training pre-sale under-tack show on Thursday, each covering the distance in :09 4/5 seconds at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif.

Among the fastest of the day was the first foal out of Grade 1 winner Careless Jewel, a Street Cry colt. The gray or roan colt, who is consigned as agent by Eddie Woods, is from the family of Grade 1 winners Cacoethes, Fabulous Notion, and Subordination.

The colt was bred in Kentucky by Southern Equine Stables. His dam has twice sold for seven figures, bringing $1.95 million from Southern Equine at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale, then selling in foal to Bodemeister for $1.85 million at the same sale in 2013.

Also hitting the mark Thursday was a Malibu Moon colt out of the Distorted Humor mare Rosy Humor. The bay colt is the third foal out of his dam, who has produced one runner. He is from the family of champion Johannesburg, as well as Group 1 winner Minardi and Grade 2 winner Tale of the Cat.

Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, the colt was a $120,000 purchase by Dona Licha Stables at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. He is consigned by Kings Equine, as agent.

The third horse to turn in the fastest eighth of a mile was a Giant’s Causeway colt out of the multiple stakes-winning Mutakddim mare Dixie Dreamer. Bred in Kentucky by Milkin Stables, Tammar Racing, Lexington Racing and Brett Setzer, the chestnut colt is the third foal out of Dixie Dreamer, and hails from the family of Grade 1 winner Life at Ten.

The colt has sold twice at public auction, bringing $150,000 on both occasions. He sold as a weanling to Blandford Bloodstock at the 2012 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, then was bought by Crupi’s New Castle Farm at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale. He is consigned at Barretts by SGV Thoroughbreds, agent.

The Barretts March sale will be held Monday, March 3 at the Hinds Pavilion in Pomona, beginning at 2 p.m. Pacific.
