Three tie for fastest breeze at Barretts under-tack show

DRF Breeding Staff|Feb 20, 2015
Hip 41 fastest worker Barretts February sale
Shigeki Kikkawa This Tale of the Cat filly out of Jill's Gem posted one of the three fastest breezes at the preview of the Barretts select sale of 2-year-olds in training.

A trio of juveniles posted the fastest time of the Barretts select sale of 2-year-olds in training pre-sale under-tack show on Friday, covering the distance in 9 4/5 seconds.

The breeze show was noteworthy for being the last one Barretts will host at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif., before moving permanently to Del Mar, beginning with its May 2-year-olds in training sale.

Following are the three horses to tie for the fastest time during Friday’s under-tack show.

► A Tale of the Cat filly out of the unraced Mineshaft mare Jill’s Gem, who is a sibling to two foals to race. Consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, agent, the filly is from the family of Grade 2 winner Guadery, and was a $75,000 purchase by the consignor at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. She was bred in Kentucky by Jim Wells and Candy Meadows.

► A Macho Uno colt out of the winning Storm Cat mare Encore, who is the dam of four winners from five foals to race. His second dam is 1999 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Cash Run, making the colt from the family of Grade 1 winner Forestry and Saudi Arabian champion Step in Time. Bred in Kentucky by Fredericka Caldwell and Mitchel Skolnick and consigned as agent by Eddie Woods, agent, the colt was a $100,000 purchase at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale.

► Street Fancy, a Street Sense filly and the second foal out of the stakes-winning Cat Thief mare Bold Angel. Bred in Kentucky by Hunter Valley Farm, the filly’s page also includes Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, Preakness Stakes winner Pine Bluff, and Grade 1 winner Demons Begone. She is consigned by McCarthy Bloodstock, agent.

The Barretts select 2-year-olds in training sale will be held Monday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. Pacific.
