Suzette brushes off stumble, wins Freedom of the City

Randy Goulding|Oct 28, 2017
Suzette wins the 2017 Freedom of the City Stakes
Coady Photography Suzette captures her second straight stakes, winning the Freedom of the City by 3 1/2 lengths.

Despite breaking a bit awkwardly Suzette was a convincing winner of the $60,000 Freedom Of The City at Century Downs on Saturday. Sent off as the heavy favorite in the seven-furlong dash for 2-year-old fillies, she paid $2.60.

After breaking inward and stumbling slightly with Rico Walcott riding, Suzette quickly recovered and dueled with Dreaming Ez through a quarter-mile in 22.37 seconds. She started to take control of the race after a half-mile in 46.34 seconds, opened up a clear lead on the stretch turn, and easily held off Pure Rose, who rallied late. The winning margin was 3 1/2 lengths. Pure Rose finished 6 1/4 lengths in front of Dreaming Ez.

The final time was 1:24.84

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Overanalyze, Suzette is trained by Greg Tracy.

She picked up $36,000 for her second straight stakes win bringing her career earnings to $75,050. She is owned by Don Danard and Brag Auger.
