Santa Anita: Zenyatta's sister Eblouissante set to make second start Thursday

Eblouissante, who won her career debut in November, is entered in a first-level optional $40,000 claimer in Thursday's seventh race at Santa Anita.

Eblouissante, a half-sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, is entered in a first-level optional $40,000 claimer over 1 1/16 miles in Thursday’s seventh race at Santa Anita.

Trained by John Shirreffs for breeder Eric Kronfeld, Eblouissante is part of a field of five. A 4-year-old filly, Eblouissante has made one start, winning a maiden race over 1 1/16 miles at Betfair Hollywood Park on Nov. 16. She was entered in an optional claimer at Hollywood Park on Dec. 15, but was scratched 30 minutes before the race after striking her hip on a door in the receiving barn.

In Thursday’s race, Eblouissante faces Double Ante, Viva Carina, Folk Dancer, and Pink Blossom.

Corey Nakatani has the mount on Eblouissante. He was aboard for her win against maidens.

Very impressive first out, I think the second out will be more impressive. My question is, she had 45 works before her first race, is that true and is that a record? and how many races will that keep her from running? They always say that patience is the greatest attribute of a great trainer, is John the modern day Job?

IF a trainer brings a horse out to win the FIRST time and expects to win the second time then why don't the rest of his horses expect the same....us handi cappers know differant......shirreffs,,,i hope she wins .....than your not paying attention to the rest of your stable .......owner and money i quess........I think she will lose....She is not ZEN

Ever heard of Balance? Zenyatta's OTHER HALF sister who earned over $1 million? Won multiple graded Stakes races? It's the bottom line that counts in breeding race horses and Vertigneaux has produced stakes winners. Look at Barbaro's FULL brothers, none of them amounted to a hill of beans.

Chris I do agree. Its really a waste of money to be giving the purses that Aqudump offers. The purses aren't attracting bigger fields because the trainers on the circuit would rather be in Florida. Where you are wrong is that we have the best meet in the world in Saratoga. Saratoga is the NY Yankees and Del Mar is the NY Mets.

Gerard NY not far behind. Super short fields in slot infused allowance and stakes, numerous breakdowns occuring AGAIN this year, blah blah blah from new NYRA board, Cuomo 's plan to kill racing upstate with more casinos, etc. I fear for NY horse racing.

Its only at the Aqueduct meet. Belmont spring/ fall and Saratoga are the best racing in the country. Combine the weather in the winter along with no turf racing and the new clenbutetol rules ( 21 days) who wouldn't ship down to south florida till Belmont opens?

Agree with most of your post. My only caveat is the "Finger Lakes downstate" meet is the longest of the year and particularly the increased breakdown rate is sticking out like a sore thumb. (Sorry another Finger Lakes reference LOL!)

Gulfstream meet is the ny downstate meet. Aquyuck is terrible in the winter 100 % agree.

As far as the breakdowns i think it may be time to take a look at the inner dirt surface itself.

I agree with Mark somewhat. Winter racing at Aqueduct is usually weak. Both in field size and competition, at least until the triple crown prep races get in full swing. I live in California but am originally from Louisiana. I still like Louisiana racing, mainly because i grew up betting the lowest level at Evangeline Downs. The plus is the large fields for Louisiana bred races. The purses are soo big. If only the states with major racing venues could see things the way legislation sees it in Louisiana or even Arkansas. It helps the tracks to compete against casinos.

Good luck racing fans we have a 4 year old filly and a 3 year old prospect named Demonic, (which broke his maiden sunday) to hope improve, and get better with racing!
