HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The $100,000 Timely Writer Handicap, the race trainer Todd Pletcher has earmarked for Eclipse Award winner Uncle Mo’s 3-year-old debut, has closed with 36 nominations. The one-mile Timely Writer will be run March 12.
Uncle Mo is one of 13 horses that Pletcher nominated for the Timely Writer. Pletcher’s other nominees include Travelin Man, runner-up in Saturday’s Grade 2 Hutcheson, and Stay Thirsty, who is expected to run Saturday in the Gotham at Aqueduct.

The nomination list also includes Dialed In, the impressive winner of the Grade 3 Holy Bull; Free Entry, who already is a two-time winner at the current meet; Nacho Business, and Bowman’s Causeway.
Entries for the Timely Writer will be taken Wednesday, March 9.

A 5-year-old maiden-claimer with a history of breaking slowly is the most probable winner on the Friday-night card. Yikes. However, THREE LITTLE BIRDS ran super in his comeback two weeks ago, and can win this maiden-20 with a better takeoff. Off slowly, he uncorked a big middle move, lost ground sweeping four-wide through the turn, challenged for the lead turning for home, and then flattened out to finish fourth. It was a big effort by a gelding that benefits from an additional half-furlong. With a clean break in his third career start, this is a race he should win.
