Aqueduct

Pick five carryover of $162,853 for Friday

David Grening|Dec 17, 2015

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Three longshot winners in the first five races on Thursday’s card resulted in a pick five carryover of $162,853 for Friday’s card at Aqueduct.

It is the first time since the bet was introduced here in September 2013 that there will be a carryover in the pick five at a New York Racing Association track. The takeout remains at 15 percent.

The pick five is conducted on the first five races on the card. First post Friday is 12:20 p.m. The Aqueduct inner track was sloppy on Thursday, and rain was forecast throughout the day and into the evening, making for the likelihood of a wet track on Friday.

Thursday’s sequence started off logical enough as 3-2 favorite Ant and Bee used his speed to win the opener and return $5. But Karen’s Silk ($63.50) and Mr Harlan ($30) won the next two races, which each had just five runners.

When first-time starter Chubby Master ($6.50) won the fourth race, it left four of the nine runners uncovered in the pick five entering the final leg.
The carryover was assured when Because I’m Happy ($29.80) sailed by Got Winged in the final furlong of the fifth.
