Overanalyze second Grade 1 winner for broodmare Unacloud

Joe Nevills|Apr 14, 2013
Overanalyze, Arkansas Derby
Tom Keyser Overanalyze wins the Arkansas Derby under jockey Rafael Bejarano.

A driving victory by Overanalyze in the Arkansas Derby further bolstered the broodmare resume of his dam, Unacloud, who became a multiple Grade 1 producer with the win.

A 16-year-old mare by Unaccounted For, Unacloud has produced six winners from eight foals to race. She is out of the winning Two Punch mare Cloud’s Ambre, and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Bear’s Lightning and Illusoria, who is also a stakes producer.

Unacloud came from modest beginnings, selling as a weanling for $14,000 at the 1997 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, then bringing $17,500 at the following year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. She never raced, and was offered as a broodmare prospect at the 2001 Keeneland November sale - carrying her first foal, a Lycius colt - but she was bought back with a final bid of $17,000.

The mare's breakthrough came in her third year as a broodmare, as she produced Meadow Breeze, a filly by Meadowlake, who went on to win the Grade 1 Matron Stakes in 2006. Later that year, Unacloud once again went through the ring at the Keeneland November sale, this time selling to Diamond A Farm for $400,000.

Meadow Breeze’s Grade 1 score also opened doors in the sale ring for her younger siblings. At the time of her sale, the filly was the most expensive foal out of Unacloud when she brought $45,000 at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July selected yearling sale. But following Meadow Breeze’s signature Matron victory just over a year later, Unacloud’s foals have broken the six-figure mark six times at public auction, either as weanlings, yearlings, or 2-year-olds.

Overanalyze has been Unacloud’s biggest auction success, selling to owner Mike Repole for $380,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September sale. The colt, from the second-to-last crop of deceased sire Dixie Union, became Unacloud’s second graded stakes winner in 2012, winning the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes and the Grade 2 Futurity Stakes. He heads to Churchill Downs with four wins from seven career starts for earnings of $956,381.

Unacloud is also the dam of Mighty Monsoon, who finished third in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar in 2011. She was bred to Tiznow for the 2013 foaling season.
