OBS March: Midshipman colt turns in fastest furlong at under-tack show

A colt from the first crop of champion Midshipman turned in the fastest furlong during the opening day of the pre-sale under-tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March selected 2 -year-olds in training sale, held Friday at the Ocala Training Center.

The bay colt, who is consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, as agent, breezed a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds, making him the only horse of the day to break the 10-second barrier.

The colt is out of the unraced Montbrook mare Eye’ll Be Fine, whose only foal to race, Diamond of Blue, is a winner and six-figure earner. Eye’ll Be Fine is a full sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Amen Hallelujah; their dam, stakes winner and $400,000 earner Sara’s Success, is a full sister to stakes winner Annatoga.

A colt by young sire Street Boss worked a quarter mile in 21 seconds flat, making him the fastest of the handful of horses to work that distance Friday. The chestnut colt, consigned by de Meric Sales, as agent, is out of the winning Forest Wildcat mare Albany County, dam of two winners from three starters. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Round Trip Flight.

Both Midshipman and Street Boss – who sired Grade 1 winner Capo Bastone from his first crop – are based at Darley’s Jonabell Farm near Lexington, Ky.

The under-tack show continues Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. Eastern, with Hips 207 to 411 scheduled to breeze. The March select sale is set for Tuesday, March 11, beginning at 10 a.m.
