Oaklawn Park begins search for new announcer

Oaklawn Park has launched a search for a new announcer after Pete Aiello was hired as the year-round race-caller at Gulfstream Park. Aiello spent his first season in Arkansas this year and came to Oaklawn from his home base of south Florida. Gulfstream announced Aiello’s hiring on Sunday.

“Pete has resigned his position at Oaklawn, so we are searching for a new announcer,” said Jennifer Hoyt, a spokeswoman for Oaklawn.

Hoyt said the track hopes to have a new voice in place by the end of August.

Better have plenty of clout,    only a few that know the right people will even get a tryout for the job. I always liked Tom Skelly who is anouncer at Fairmount Park in Illinois but don t think he would be interested. Another I think would be great would be Joe Mazzone  but he has only worked in Chicago area.

I was disappointed in that Pete did a great job at Oaklawn.  I understand that when opportunity knocks you have to answer.   I hope they get someone equal to Pete but can get a long term commitment.  Terry Wallace's longevity spoiled those of us who are Oaklawn fans.

What about the ex Churchill Downs announcer (can't remember his name). He's calling races at a small track in England.
