Art Scene (colt) and Bettor's Up won a pair of six-figure Simcoe Stakes for 3-year-old pacers, and Shadow Moon and Jimmy Freight took the two Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series test for 2-year-old colt pacers on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack. In the C$162,838 Simcoe for sophomore pacing colts, it was Art Scene (Scott Zeron) crunching the competition with a 1:49 4/5 career-best effort.  Coming off a second-place finish in the Messenger, Art Scene was sent off at 6-5, and he would take the lead just past the 55 second half-mile marker.  He began to scoot away from the field on the far turn and to the 1:22 1/5 three-quarters, and he would reach the finish line five lengths to the good over Ocean Colony (Yannick Gingras).  Hurricane Beach (Dan Dube) finished in the third position. "I know he's raced really well his last two races over at Yonkers, but that was impressive right there," said Scott Zeron.  "I drove him at Tioga (in the Empire Breeders Classic), and he raced very good in the elimination, but in the final he was just a little bit disappointing.  He bounced back great over at Yonkers at tonight as well. "We had to really be patient with him.  Tony (Alagna) did a great job with him all throughout.  We really thought he was going to be a top colt right at the beginning, but it took us awhile to get to the point where were at right now.  It's exciting to have a horse finishing off the year and peaking right now.  There's still a lot left." Art Scene is an American Ideal colt trained by Alagna for co-owner/breeder Brittany Farms and co-owners Alagna Racing LLC., In The Gym Partners, and Americam Art Stable.  Winless in one start last year, he has a trio of victories from 13 tries in 2017, and he has earned C$256,636 lifetime.  He paid $4.40 to win. Bettor's Up (Doug McNair), who was making her first pari-mutuel start at Mohawk since winning the Fan Hanover over the oval earlier this year, also rolled in the C$163,872 Simcoe for 3-year-old pacing fillies, stopping the clock in 1:50.  She worked out a second-over trip behind Idyllic Beach (Gingras), who got to within a length of pace-setting Obvious Blue Chip (Zeron) at the 1:22 3/5 three-quarters.  In the lane McNair fired Bettor's Up three-wide, and she surged past the leaders on her way to a 6 1/2 length decision.  Dudesalady (Jody Jamieson) was the runner-up at odds of 52-1 and Stonebridge Sundae (Trevor Henry) collected third. "It worked out good.  I floated, found a good spot, and live cover," relayed McNair.  "In the last turn I thought I was in a good spot.  She still felt good.  That's the best she's been since the Fan Hanover." Bettor's Up is a daughter of Bettor's Delight trained by Scott McEneny for owners Brad Grant, Teresa Davidson, and Michelle McEneny.  This was Bettors Up's tenth career victory, and she has now banked C$631,964.  Sent off at 5-1, she returned $12.60 to win. The first Ontario Sires Stakes division for rookie pacing colts went for C$97,200, and 8-5 second favorite Shadow Moon (Henry) would win in 1:53 after he led through fractions of 27 1/5, 56 4/5, and 1:24 4/5.  He beat favored Declan Seelster (Jamieson) by a neck, with Avalon Seelster (Tim Tetrick) up for third. "He's a gritty and tough little guy.  He acts just like his father (Shadow Play)," remarked winning trainer Dr. Ian Moore.  "It wasn't that fast a mile tonight, but it is cold here, and Trevor says he kind of looks for them, waits for them, and wants to take them on.  I had my hands full warming him up tonight, so I knew he was pretty good." Moore also co-owns Shadow Moon, a colt by Shadow Play, with partners R G McGroup Ltd., Serge Savard, and Gordon McComb.  Shadow Moon now sports a record of 5-1-0 from six efforts, and he has put away C$195,337.  Bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc., Shadow Moon was purchased for $60,000 at the Standardbred Horse Sale and is out of the Western Hanover mare Lofty Yankee, a full sister to Yankee Lariat ($421,560) and a three-quarter sister to Word Power (Western Ideal, $506,224).  Shadow Moon paid $5.30 to win. In the other C$96,400 Ontario Sires Stakes clash, a pair of 8-5 shots in Jimmy Freight (Jonathan Drury) and Western Passage (Gingras) battled through stations of 27 1/5, 55 2/5, and 1:24 1/5, but Jimmy Freight drove on in the lane and went on to beat a rallying Simple Kinda Man (Henry) by a length and a half in 1:52 3/5.  Sharp Action Money (Sylvain Filion) took third. "I was able to get a little breather in the third quarter, and I think that helped a lot," offered Drury.  "He's a real handy little fella.  You can get out of there quick with him, he settles right down as soon as you clear, and you can do whatever you want." The victorious Sportswriter colt is trained by Tony Beaton for owner Adriano Sorella.  Jimmy Freight, who began his career on the Iowa Fair Circuit before a private purchase in July, has seven triumphs from nine trips behind the gate, and he sports a bankroll of C$118,526.  Bred by Alan and Randell Eden, Jimmy Freight is out of the Western Ideal mare Allamerican Summer ($123,472), half-sister to Summertime Lea (Lislea, $715,804).  Jimmy Freight returned $5.50 to win.
