Always B Miki's 1:47 1/5 mile is the fastest ever on Canadian soil

Always B Miki turned in another eye-catching performance in Saturday night's C$100,000 Mohawk Gold Cup Invitational as he became the fastest performer ever north of the border by virtue of a 1:47 1/5 effort.

Nirvana Seelster (Phil Hudon) made the pace in the race, leaving out from post eight and chopping out fractions of 25 2/5, 53 2/5, and 1:20 2/5.  Always B Miki (Dave Miller) got away sixth, was the first to pull to the outside before the half, and then picked up the cover of Bettors Edge (Yannick Gingras) past the half.

Miller sent Always B Miki to the outside in the stretch, and he would pace to the lead, despite drifting in.  From there, the teletimer was the only thing in doubt, as Always B Miki won the event by 3 1/2 lengths over Shamballa (Rick Zeron).  Evenin Of Pleasure (Sylvain Filion) finished third.

Jimmy Takter trains Always B Miki, a 5-year-old son of Always A Virgin, for co-owner/breeder Roll The Dice Stable and co-owners Christina Takter and Bluewood Stable.  Always B Miki now has 21 wins from 40 starts and earnings of C$1,383,506.  Sent off at 1-5, Always B Miki returned $2.50 to win.
