Michigan TOBA releases online yearling and 2-year-old auction catalog

The Michigan Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association has released the catalog for its yearlings and unraced 2-year-olds online auction, to be held Sept. 21-27.

A total of 25 horses have been cataloged for this year’s edition, down one from last year’s 26-horse book. The catalog consists of 19 yearlings and six juveniles.

A fairly unique concept among Thoroughbred auctions, bidding on the horses will take place on the MTOBA website beginning Saturday, Sept. 21, and will conclude on Friday, Sept. 27, in the manner of a typical online auction, with no physical sale event to be held. Contact information for each consignor will be made available in the print and online catalogs to arrange inspections of the horses on their farms.

Among the offerings is the first foal out of three-time Michigan Horse of the Year Valley Loot, a yearling dark bay or brown Ghostzapper filly named How Much Down. The sale also features a 2-year-old from the first crop of Michigan sire Sweetsouthernsanto.

Yearlings are cataloged from the final crops of Fire Blitz, War Image, and Valid Trefaire, who each perished in a 2012 barn fire. A juvenile from the last crop of deceased sire Meadow Prayer will be offered as well.
