Marks: Powerful pedigree lies within Wiggle It Jiggleit

Wiggle It Jiggleit's roots can be traced back to Meadow Skipper.

Among the most exciting if not the most unexpected performers of the young season has to be Wiggle It Jiggleit, the son of Mr. Wiggles trained by Clyde Francis for George Teague, Jr. and driven by George’s son, Montrell.

Certainly his last win, a zillion-length affair at Harrington Raceway, was an eye-opener indeed. He tacked on a 27-second last quarter on a 1:22 three quarters time to cover that half-miler in 1:49 while looking like he could have gone more.

There’s no question that this is a serious young pacing colt, though he is not extensively staked, which is probably good news for the rest of the 3-year-old pacing division.

In any event, perhaps we should see just who he is genetically.

His sire, Mr. Wiggles (p,3, 1:49 1/5), is the fastest male son of Badlands Hanover, he one of the all time better sons of the sire of sire Western Hanover. So there’s ample male line performance potential. For the record, Western Hanover has produced siring sons like Western Ideal, Western Terror, The Panderosa, Well Said, Red River Hanover, and Rustler Hanover in addition to Badlands Hanover.

One might note, The Panderosa’s son, Ponder, gets occasional stars like Bolt The Duer and Thinking Out Loud, therefore it’s not outlandish for a Badlands Hanover son like Mr Wiggles to come up with a Wiggle It Jiggleit.

Maternally, Wiggle It Jiggleit is from Mozzi Hanover, she by Jenna’s Beach Boy from Movie Star Laag. Mozzi Hanover herself paced in 1:52 4/5 and earned $140,682. Movie Star Laag, by Laag from Movie Star Legs, has a record of 1:51 2/5 as a 4-year-old with earnings of $440,854.

Now here’s where it gets interesting! The third dam, Movie Star Legs, is by No Nukes from the brilliant Stienam, the very same Stienam currently in the headlines for her daughter Stienam’s Place, dam of one of the great race mares of this era named in Put On A Show!

When you look at the five generation extended pedigree, every name in the first three generations raced and earned money.  The first non-record performer, Eyewash, dam of Jenna’s Beach Boy’s dam Five O Clock Cindy, appears in the fourth generation. The only other unraced name, Bret’s Fancy, third dam of Badlands Hanover, appears in the fifth generation.

If nothing else, Wiggle It Jiggleit was certainly bred to be a race horse.

As some readers might be aware, I just finished co-writing a book entitled Meadow Skipper, The Untold Story with Victoria Howard, the co-author of the acclaimed Roosevelt Raceway Where It All Began book.

In part of it, we analyzed and dissected the contribution Meadow Skipper has made to the current breed of pacing horses. It’s probably impossible to find a Northern hemisphere-based pacer without at least one cross to Meadow Skipper within a five generation pedigree.

Kathy Parker, editor of the Horseman and Fair World magazine, observed in her breeding banter column that even a so-called “outcross” superstar like Somebeachsomewhere actually has four distinct links to the great progenitor Meadow Skipper.

So in this spirit, we examined the five generation pedigree of Wiggle It Jiggleit. The sire, Mr. Wiggles, actually provides no less than five distinct Meadow Skipper links through his Western Hanover sire Badlands Hanover and his Life Sign dam Wiggle Hanover. Life Sign is from the Albatross mare Three Diamonds and Wiggle Hanover’s dam Waltzing adds a Nero cross through her dam Shimmer. Both Albatross and Nero are Meadow Skipper sons.

Badlands Hanover is by Western Hanover, he a double Meadow Skipper through No Nukes and Albatross. Meanwhile, Behave Hanover, dam of Badlands Hanover, is by Most Happy Fella’s son Tyler B. Most Happy Fella, a son of Meadow Skipper, is the grandsire of No Nukes.

That makes three Meadow Skipper crosses through Badlands Hanover and two from Wiggle Hanover.

Mozzi Hanover, dam of Wiggle It Jiggleit, is by Jenna’s Beach Boy, who provides three more Meadow Skipper crosses through his sire Beach Towel by Meadow Skipper’s son French Chef and his dam Five O Clock Cindy, she by Cam Fella from the Windshield Wiper mare Eyewash. Cam Fella is by Meadow Skipper’s son Most Happy Fella, while Windshield Wiper is a son of Meadow Skipper.

Mozzi Hanover’s dam, Movie Star Laag, adds three more Meadow Skipper links through her sire Laag (from a Meadow Skipper mare) and her dam Movie Star Legs by No Nukes from the Falcon Almahurst daughter Stienam. Falcon Almahurst is a son of Meadow Skipper.

Thus within the five generation pedigree of Wiggle It Jiggleit there are 11 separate and distinct links to Meadow Skipper—the horse that has virtually reshaped the pacing breed.

Just how good Wiggle It Jiggleit really is remains to be seen, and I’m sure we’ll be learning more soon enough.

At first glance, some of us may have looked at the pedigree and thought, “What’s this?”  However, further examination reveals Wiggle It Jiggleit has the credentials to be as good as he wants to be under the current genetic spectrum.

Have enjoyed getting introduced to the breed via Wiggle It Jiggleit. What an introduction! Was bowled over recently with his Little Brown Jug win on Sept.24th where he showed his will to win by his refusal to lose to Lost For Words, who ran a huge race himself. This is a great article and introduction to the Standardbred. So glad I found it. Thank you for writing it. Very nice style and easy to follow.

Great article, I would like to add that Bret's Fancy was an exceptional broodmare. She produced solid game race horses year after year. Bonzo Hanover, Brenton Hanover, Baird Hanover. The Bret Hanover/ Meadow Skipper golden cross. Brenton had the same 5th gear that Wiggle It has. Simply amazing Little Brown Jug this year, congrats to everyone.
