Louisiana Downs: Whited, trainer, hospitalized with brain trauma

Trainer David Whited was in a Shreveport, La., hospital on Wednesday with brain trauma, according to family members. He had brought a horse into Louisiana Downs on Tuesday night, and he may have been kicked in the head while unloading the animal, they said, but added that was not yet confirmed. The family on Wednesday was still learning details of what happened.

Whited is hospitalized at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. He has bleeding on the brain and was unconscious on Wednesday morning, but his vital signs are strong, said family members. Whited was to undergo more testing on Wednesday.

Whited is based at a training center in Arkansas. He is a retired jockey who won 3,795 races in his riding career. Whited’s top runners as a trainer include All About Allie, a six-time stakes winner of more than $300,000. Earlier this year, Whited put Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel on the 5,000th winner of his career, when his trainee, Hezunusal, took a maiden claiming race at Oaklawn Park in March.
