Louisiana Downs: Heitzmann fined for paddock altercation

Email

BOSSIER CITY, La. – Trainer Eric Heitzmann has been fined $1,000 by track stewards for being the aggressor in an altercation in the Louisiana Downs paddock last Thursday afternoon. In addition to the fine, Heitzmann has been ordered to undergo anger management counseling.

According to witnesses, Heitzmann confronted fellow trainer Wes Hawley following the afternoon’s fifth race, from which Hawley had claimed second-place finish finisher Autobeacat from Heitzmann. Heitzmann reportedly knocked Hawley to the ground and was on top of him before being subdued by members of the Louisiana Downs gate crew.

A spokesman for the Bossier City Police Department confirmed that Heitzmann had been issued a citation for his part in the incident.

Right is right, wrong is wrong, that type of behavior can't be justified in any way , shape or form, resorting to fisticuffs is so primitive, and will be frowned upon when future stall applications are considered at any racing facility down the road. Just one man's opinion.

As is smoking weed, popping pills, selling information, and being on the take, all by a racing official/clocker should be frowned upon on all future job applications that are considered at any racing facility down the road. Just one man's opinion.

Thank You to all the Owners, trainers, jockeys, jockey agents, gate crew, office personell, valets, backside employees, and everyone else who donated to the collection and raised the money to pay my husbands fine. The ink wasnt dry on the ruling yet before the money was raised. Shows you how disliked that unethical coward is. We've had many claimed from us with no problem, anyone in the know, knows the situation... and knows the parties involved and why this came about.

brings back old memories from way back. 1 of my 1st memories of a claiming race, happened @ the old "jefferson downs" in down town new orleans, in 1960 ish. there was an ole french-man who spoke no english, lost a horse to claim. when he removed the bridle so the new owner could take posession, he proceeded to use the bridle ,to beat the new owner with. you may attempt to change racing. & may do it to a certin degree. but you will never change louisiana have a nice day. " an ole railbird".
