Louisiana Derby: Revolutionary favored in field of 14
By Jay Privman
NEW ORLEANS – Revolutionary, who overcame severe traffic problems to win the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct in his last start, drew post 3 in a full field of 14 on Wednesday for the Grade 2, $1 million Louisiana Derby on Saturday at Fair Grounds.
Track linemaker Mike Diliberto made Revolutionary the 3-1 favorite. Code West, second in the Risen Star here last month, is next at 9-2, with Palace Malice, third in the Risen Star, the 5-1 third choice for the 1 1/8-mile race.
The field, from the rail out, with rider and morning-line odds:
1. Hip Four Sixtynine, Jamie Theriot, 30-1
2. Palace Malice, Edgar Prado, 5-1
3. Revolutionary, Javier Castellano, 3-1
4. Golden Soul, Calvin Borel, 20-1
5. Whiskey Bravo, James Graham, 30-1
6. Sunbean, Colby Hernandez, 12-1
7. Departing, Brian Hernandez Jr., 8-1
8. Code West, Martin Garcia, 9-2
9. Proud Strike, Corey Nakatani, 10-1
10. Titletown Five, Jon Court, 8-1
11. Mylute, Shaun Bridgmohan, 12-1
12.Brazilian Court, Miguel Mena, 30-1
13. Ground Transport, Mark Guidry, 20-1
14. Nina’s Dragon, Julien Couton, 30-1

LA DERBY IS AS EXCITING AS ALWAYS ...IF ONLY WE COULD HAVE THE BEST OF THE BEST 3 YEAR OLDS RUNNING IN IT..WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO PUT THE FLA. DERBY AND THE LA. DERBY ON THE SAME DATE..SHAME ON YOU...GOES TO SHOW THE INDUSTRIES HEADERS ARE NOT LIKE THEY USE TO BE...VONVON
Revolutionary - Can he repeat?
Like Palice Malice and Rev. But Departing a major sleeper!
I'll be playing a 3 race Win & Place Parlay saturday - Unlimited Budget, Orb and Bourbon Courage. The Louisiana Derby is a crap shoot...
Dont' mess with Jon Court and CalBo is overdue to steal one. The small guys are always hungrier at these preps, willing to push their horses full tilt.
So far the horse of the week has been a fail. It is about time the horse becomes THE horse. Revolutionary should win in a wide open race and by far, the best betting trial to date. Good luck to a nice tri and super
Much is made about the troubled trips that have found Revolutionary in the past, but one thing they never mention in the same breath: Revolutionary manages to work his way out of trouble with his talent and that is very admirable and not to be taken lightly. This horse is a Type A competitor with a capital C. Those that pooh-pooh him do so at their own risk. This is a great race! Fourteen horses - a big field that guarantees an exciting race with all sorts of scenarios happening within the race. With the presence of Code West, Proud Strike, Mylute, Departing, and, especially, the formidably intriguing Palace Malice, this is going to be a donnybrook of a battle for the win. It will make great betting options for bettors, especially in the exotics. We are going to be priviledged to see some great racing, and I'm excited to see this race unfurl before our eyes. I can see two or three from this race emerge to be in the starting gate at Churchill Downs the first Saturday in May. Good luck to all in this race, good luck to all of you bettors, and may all of the horses emerge healthy and fit from this race. May we all witness an interesting, exciting race!
Ground Transport the one to beat with Guidry on board. Worth a few gold coins bet. Very nice odds.
Woo hoo !
Look for another longshot ala Hero of Order. Something weird down New Orlleans way ,called voodoo ,got my chicken bones ready!!!!
