FASIG-TIPTON SARATOGA SELECT YEARLING SALE
Live Video Coverage continues 7pm on Tuesday August 7:
| When: | Aug. 6-7, 2012 |
| Where: | Humphrey S. Finney Sale Pavilion, East and Madison Avenues, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., 12866 |
| Phone: | (518) 584-4700 |
| Catalog: | 189 yearlings, up from 160 last year despite a declining overall foal crop. |
| Recent history: | The 2011 sale posted gains across the board after selling 103 yearlings for $32,892,000, an average price of $319,340, and a median of $250,000. Gross eked out a one-percent increase, but average rose by a healthy 16 percent, and median was up four percent. Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum bought a pair of $1.2 million colts by two of his stallions to top the sale: a Bernardini half-brother to 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace and a Medaglia d’Oro half-brother to 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. |

The two late sales rescued the figures from even more dismal returns, serving to bolster an extremely soft market that seemed to hit its ceiling any time bidding approached $400,000. MORE>>
