WHO’S HOT
Palace Malice, who runs Saturday in the Risen Star, and Shakin It Up, who captured the San Vicente, muscled their way onto the top 20 of this week’s Derby Watch list. Palace Malice, who just missed making the original top 20 two weeks ago, is a 30-1 shot on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form’s national handicapper. Shakin It Up is 40-1 on Watchmaker’s line. Super Ninety Nine, the runaway winner of the Southwest, saw his price cut in half by Watchmaker, to 15-1 from last week’s 30-1.
WHO’S NOT
To make room for the two newcomers, Capo Bastone and Will Take Charge were dropped from the top 20. Capo Bastone was a tenuous pick on the original top 20 two weeks ago, and the slow time of his comeback race Saturday at Gulfstream was adjudged insufficient to remain on the list. He certainly could get back on with a sharper performance in his next start. Will Take Charge was removed after being well beaten in the Southwest. Uncaptured, nearing a return to action next month, was bumped up a tick on Watchmaker’s line to 30-1 from last week’s 25-1.
ON THE BUBBLE
There are several well-regarded runners in both the Risen Star and the Fountain of Youth this Saturday, most notably Risen Star entrant Code West, who was second to Super Ninety Nine in a Santa Anita allowance race last time out. Cerro, Majestic Hussar, and Orb are among those who could jump onto the list with a big performance in the Fountain of Youth. Treasury Bill, runner-up in the San Vicente, has been knocking on the door since Derby Watch was launched two weeks ago and just missed the cut again this week.

Best Bets
MOST HAPPY FELLA, reclaimed from last, drops to easier spot after setting pressured pace vs. odds-on Pinball; both wins last year came on this track. ARTIE LUVSTO PARTY has a knack for surprises, with three lifetime wins coming at 33-1, 17-1 & 11-1 (two on this track); entrymate EQUIVOCATION gets major rider switch first off a claim. PURE ATTITUDE among top 3 in wins & earnings and snug fit to date clause.
