Palace Malice will be ridden by Mike Smith in the Kentucky Derby.

Calvin Borel will ride Revolutionary and Mike Smith has picked up the mount on Palace Malice in the Kentucky Derby on May 4, trainer Todd Pletcher said Monday.

Revolutionary won the Louisiana Derby with Javier Castellano, who since has chosen to ride Normandy Invasion in the Derby.

Borel, Pletcher, and Revolutionary's owner – WinStar Farm – teamed to win the Derby in 2010 with Super Saver.

Borel is a three-time Derby winner.

Palace Malice finished second Saturday in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. He was ridden that day by Garrett Gomez, who is committed to ride Vyjack in the Derby.

Smith, who won the Derby in 2005 with Giacomo, was in need of a mount after War Academy, favored in the Arkansas Derby on Saturday, was eased.

Mike always amazes.Especially in this caliber race. But the winner is Orb with Rosario. He will tackle them late. The big V better gets to stepping because there will be a wall of finishers in here....

Wow, picking up Calvin, this horse has a great shot.. His turn of foot going ten wide in the La Derby was impressive! Just too much Derby magic on the back of a rapidly improving colt to ignore,,,

a Crazy Jock for a Crazy horse . I think Javier is scared of that Horse . Calvin is going to place him in a Ground saving Spot and Attempt to Pass only One Horse in the Stretch watch him on Supersaver he only passed one horse the others backed up and he had one horse to pass in the stretch.... Ching Ching. Him and Over. and Vijack. my keys

Thought the winner of Ark derby was impressive even though the time was not..... Overanalyze moved up with that win with only Verrazano and Revolutionary to beat...

JC had a butt kicking coming to him that day when he put several riders lives in danger.Calvin gave him what was needed and what has been done in jocks rooms since the beginning of time.

Agreed. I wonder if he was given a choice between the two?
