Keeneland: Lezcano to ride Wise Dan

Jose Lezcano gave Wise Dan a flawless ride in winning the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile last fall at Keeneland.

Trainer Charlie LoPresti is calling on Jose Lezcano to ride Wise Dan again when the 2012 Horse of the Year makes his 6-year-old debut Friday in the Grade 1, $300,000 Maker’s 46 Mile.

Lezcano will be filling in again for John Velazquez, who suffered what has been reported as “minor fractures” in a spill Sunday at Aqueduct. Last fall, Lezcano gave Wise Dan a flawless ride here in winning the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile, a race that Velazquez missed because of a scheduling conflict. It was the only time Lezcano has ridden Wise Dan in the gelding’s 20-race career.

Perhaps five other older turf horses, including Data Link, Silentio, and Suggestive Boy, were expected when entries for the Maker’s 46 Mile were drawn Tuesday.

Jose Lezcano is one of the best riders in the country let alone probably the best one or two turf riders as well. Rosario is good, but look at the number of mounts Lezcano gets and the average odds he wins at and that tells you he is a money rider. If Dan is right, he and Jose are locks.

http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbHorsemenAreaDownloadAction.cfm?sn=SN-KEE-20130412-516020........ Looks like Wise Dan and Data Link get 123 lbs and Silencio gets in with 118 lbs (if I am reading conditions correctly). So no weight advantage for DL unless Data Link were to get in at 118 lbs with 5 lbs off last. It appears Wise Dan will get in with 3 lbs off BC race. Clarity tomorrow with pp's available :-). Be great race but maybe not for wagering,

While I loved Suggestive Boy at SA on Big Cap day I was surprised he did not win by more than he did. Not much value here other than a $40 Tri Key with Dan over Silentio and someone else other than the Boy. I think that race drained him and he will tire trying to keep up with Dan which could leave a $2 Tri yielding $40-$80 return as long as I can keep the Boy off the ticket.

I know there are no such things as locks in horse racing, but this is as close as it gets.

is this a hcp. or even weights. he should be spotting this field 10 pounds. data link is not really a miler.

With Point of Entry in the same barn, Data Link will be a miler this year. Expect him to be very sharp Friday with a race already under his belt this year.

The mount should have went to the best rider in the country, Joel Rosario that way there will be no need to worry but the way it looks now there is reason to worry. We'll wait to see after Friday as to how this rider switch plays out. Lots of pressure on Lezcano to win first out on our reigning H.O.T.Y.

Rosario is at Oaklawn that day

Yo Forego137, This is America. The connections of Wise Dan have every right to choose a jockey who has won on the horse before. As great as Rosario may be, he's the same Joel Rosario that got raked over the coals when he rode Animal Kingdom at GP earlier this year. Hold it down with the monopolization of jockey mounts. Wise Dan will roll with Jose Lescano this Friday just like he did in the Shadwell Mile last October.

Jose Lezcano is one of the best riders in the country let alone probably the best one or two turf riders as well. Rosario is good, but look at the number of mounts Lezcano gets and the average odds he wins at and that tells you he is a money rider. Horses that are ready to run are handed to him and when a couple of these old farts retire, he will take his spot in the top 5 year in and year out.

Jose, make two left turns and don't fall off and you'll have another Grade 1 in your pocket.

Good choice. Lezcano is a fine turf rider.
