ARCADIA, Calif. - John F Kennedy, a one-time future book favorite for the 2015 English Derby, has been retired after sustaining an injury in his American debut on May 15. Trainer Paulo Lobo said on Sunday that the injury does not require surgery and that John F Kennedy will be shipped to Argentina soon to begin stud service when the Southern Hemisphere breeding season begins in August. Lobo said that John F Kennedy would “need a lot of time” to return to racing. By Galileo, John F Kennedy was trained by Aidan O’Brien in Ireland before joining Lobo’s stable last winter. John F Kennedy finished last of seven in an optional claimer on turf on May 15. In his career, the 4-year-old colt won 2 of 7 starts and earned $112,887. In 2014, John F Kennedy won the Group 3 John Deere Juvenile Turf Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland, his only career stakes win.
